Indonesia, a country blessed with beautiful landscape, is also rich in mineral diversity with vast mining sites. The ever increasing demand for commodity worldwide has eventually increased mining explorations throughout Indonesia.Recently Alpha group has the opportunity to provide the logistic demand for a new bauxite mining sites at Ketapang, West Borneo. Main challenges for this project are the limited facilities, included poor jetty (private port) infrastructures, and below the standard road access from port to the site. Initially these cargoes need to be moved from Cilacap and Karawang to Jakarta.
After that, it were transported by using a private chartered LCT vessel with 1300 DWT (Deadweight Tonnage) capacity. Until now, there are still no schedule for regular vessel or any other
moving transport vehicle to this remote site.Total cargo in this shipment would be about 1200 metre cubic, or roughly 700 tonnes. Other challenge to overcome are to arrange the exact timing between deliveries.
Cargoes need to be unloaded by 48 hours as soon as it arrived, otherwise an additional high demmurage cost will be imposed.Besides that, berthing an LCT vessel require extra maneuvers, which took two hours depending on the the draft (depth of sea), vessel’s condition and Captain’s skills. At the end, with the increased mining projects took place at Borneo and elsewhere, a significant infrastructure growth will realized in the long run, especially at many remote parts of Indonesia.
